EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

is a gentle and effective form of therapy that helps people heal from past trauma, anxiety, or distressing life experiences. It was developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro and is now used all over the world to help people find relief and emotional balance.

How Does EMDR Work?

Sometimes when something very upsetting happens, our brain doesn’t fully process the experience. It can get “stuck,” leaving behind strong emotions, vivid images, or body sensations that feel as if the event is happening all over again.

EMDR helps the brain reprocess those memories so they lose their emotional intensity. You’ll still remember what happened, but it won’t feel as painful or overwhelming.

What Happens During a Session

During an EMDR session, your therapist will gently guide you to focus on a difficult memory while using bilateral stimulation — usually side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or sounds.

This process helps your brain naturally process the memory in a new, healthier way. You don’t have to go into detail or “relive” the event — your therapist will make sure you feel safe and supported throughout the process.

What You Can Expect

Many clients say that after EMDR, the memories that once felt very distressing start to feel distant and less upsetting. They often notice:

Less anxiety or emotional triggers

A stronger sense of calm and control

More positive beliefs about themselves

EMDR can be a powerful step toward healing, resilience, and emotional freedom.
